A long and loud yawn escaped Zaeff as he trudged through the forest, his eyes watering out of tiredness.
I'm so tired. he thought to himself, looking upwards through the canopy above him. It was daytime, at least. He'd been travelling for three days straight now, and hadn't stopped. Before, he had camped, but now he was becoming impatient to find more signs of life. This forest must have been gigantic. He'd run out of the provisions he brought originally and was resorting to eating plants, and every now and then the small animal, as much as he hated having to kill them. But, survival of the fittest, he supposed.
Faintly, he remembered hearing stories about the big cities and different places in the world from the few other elves in his tribe who had travelled. That's why he left. Why hadn't he asked for a map? For such a smart elf, that was a stupid move. he reminded himself, and yawned again. It had been nonstop for the past few hours, but he didn't care.
As stubborn as he was, he'd told himself he wouldn't sleep again until he found a house in which to do so. Or at least, some sort of civilized shelter, rather than the bed of leaves he'd been using earlier on in his journey.
Maybe he could at least run into someone who could lead him to a city, or tell him which way it was. As much as he hated meeting new people, as much as he disliked having to help- and what's worse, ask for directions, he'd have to at some point. He sighed, his shoulders dropping as he picked up the pace a bit.
"Come on Zaeff," he grunted to himself, "you'll be there soon. Yeeah, that's it..." he rolled his eyes to himself. He'd been telling himself the same thing for the past few days, and he'd tied his long brown hair into a high ponytail now. With the tie at the end, his hair had gotten snagged in trees and branches and shrubs, so now at least it was a bit easier to move around. Sometimes he hated having his hair so long, but it was almost a tradition from his tribe, and although he was never going to return, he also didn't want to forget the life that was behind him.
